Cancer: A term used for over one hundred diseases in which abnormal cells grow out of control.

Carcinoma: A cancer that arises from epithelial cells.

Carcinoma in-situ: An abnormal growth of cells that stays within the area it originally appeared and does not spread to other parts of the body.

Cell: The basic structure of tissue or an organ.

Chemotherapy: The use of drugs (chemicals) to treat cancer cells by destroying or slowing the growth.

Clinical trial: A research study conducted with humans to study a new ways for treating, diagnosing, and preventing disease.

Colectomy: Surgical resection of the bowel.

Colonoscopy:
Screening test for colon cancer.

Colostomy: Surgical opening created for excretion purposes.

Cyst: Any swelling, unusual lump or hardness in the breast. Women and men with breast lumps are strongly urged to make an appointment with a doctor. Most are not cancerous.
